Women in the Modern Day Workplace

It must be said that there are still some definite areas of the national economy where women fail to make up equal numbers to their mail counterparts. Whether this is the technological sector, or building and engineering, female representation is often thin on the ground.

The same could be said for men, though, within other areas of industry. Take call centres as a good example here: whether it is working for a large telecommunications company or a financial institution that deals with equity release schemes it is a fact that more women work in this type of job than men.

The biggest question to ask here must be whether or not this is simply a matter of personal choice? Obviously, some types of employment will appeal more to men than women, and vice versa. Technology and engineering have always been viewed as a rather masculine role and it may be fair to speculate that there will never be a 50/50 balance in this type of job.

Ostensibly, many people would state that if one of these types of employment were to appeal to a woman, in the workplace of today, they could study the relevant qualifications and enter the industry that they had in mind.

Yes, there are some types of employment that will suit one sex more than the other - it is all very well claiming that there are unequal percentages at play in these types of industry, but perhaps we just have to accept the fact that things are unlikely to change that much more in the future.
